Neuroscience of Yoga Workshops
Neuroscience of Yoga Workshop- Provides in depth review of the neuroscience behind mind body practices provided by Dr. Sherri Hayden. Practical exercises are embedded within this 6 hour program to facilitate the learning experience for yoga teachers and yogis.
The Neuroscience of Yoga Workshop can be specialized for yoga teachers and/or students of yoga. We offer these workshops ongoing and upon request by yoga teachers/studios. Contact us to request a workshop (synaptictravels.com).
The sample itinerary for an upcoming workshop in November 2022 (i.e., to Modo Yoga Vancouver yoga teachers) is provided below:
NEUROSCIENCE OF YOGA WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
DAY 1 (~ 2 hours)
I. Foundational review of neuroscience for Yoga Teachers
• Basic review of brain structures relevant to mind-body practices
• Review of autonomic nervous system, including sex-specific stress response
• Basic review of the brain’s role in cognitive function
• Basic review of the brain’s role in mental health
• DISCUSSION & PRACTICAL EXERCISE (~15-20 min)
II. Neuroscience of breathwork, meditation & mindfulness practices
• Understanding the role of breathwork in your brain’s function
• Understanding the impact of meditation on your brain
• Mindfulness and the brain function
• DISCUSSION & PRACTICAL EXERCISE (~15-20 min)
Day 2 (~ 2 hours)
III. Neuroscience of yoga practice
• Yoga, cognition and the brain
• Yoga, mental health and the brain
• DISCUSSION & PRACTICAL EXERCISE (~15-20 min)
IV. Understanding self-care for yoga teachers’ brains
• Navigating difficult situations while teaching (i.e., understanding secondary-trauma)
• Self-care to facilitate your care of others
• Dos and don’ts when speaking of the brain while teaching yoga
• DISCUSSION & PRACTICAL EXERCISE (~15-20min)
