Assisting the Primary Series for Teachers

In this seminar for teachers you will learn how to approach some key postures in the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series. You can only share what you directly experience so the process of teaching, assisting and guiding students includes your personal level of awareness. While there is cookie cutter method that applies universally to all people in all situations, you will experiment with communicating through hands-on assists during your teaching and during your yoga practice.


Headstand; Change your Perspective

Learn to build solid foundation in your upper body and effortlessly turn your world upside down. Headstand, known in Sanskrit as Sirsasana, is considered one of the most powerful postures in the yoga tradition. Holding headstand for long periods of time balances the nervous system and in this class you will experience a full five minute balance on your head in the traditional position–when you come down your perspective on more than just headstand will be changed. You will explore how to safely enter and exit headstand from fun and challenging positions. Once the foundation is established you will experiment with the seven headstands of the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga and entering arm balances from headstand, all the while remembering to smile.
You do not have to be able to do a headstand to take this workshop, but some supervised experience in attempting headstand is recommended.


Twist into your Centre

Deep twisting increases energy levels, cleanses the body and opens the mind to new levels of awareness. Find the perfect balance between activation and release in this new approach to twisting. Learn healthy technique to increase flexibility in your spine and shoulders while creating solid foundation in your pelvis. Use the core strength of the body to support the twisting and extension. You will have fun with many levels of twists and even use the twisting position to enter some challenging arm balances!


Open Your Hips

Gain access to the energy centers deep within the pelvis and learn to relax and release your hips into freedom. With a careful anatomical understanding of the muscular and skeletal activation needed to access the natural external hip rotation available to everyone you will have fun exploring the interior spaces of your hip joints. Make contact with your hips and unlock their potential for movement.


Ashtanga Yoga Full Primary Series

Surrender to the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method as Kino guides you through the primary series with careful emphasis on the traditional vinyasa count. Experience the integrity and purity of the Ashtanga Yoga practice and be prepared to sweat! Some experience with Ashtanga Yoga is recommended.


Fearless Backbends

By understanding how to work your body in a safe way you will learn what it takes to really bend over backwards with no fear. The secrets of deep backbends are available to you through the integration of sound anatomical principles, healthy alignment techniques and intensely fun stretches. The dynamic movement mechanics of bending your spine are the key to limitless flows of energy and in this class you will begin to explore you natural potential to for deep backbends with safety, support and enthusiasm.


Arm Balances for Everyone

Break a sweat while learning to safely balance on your hands, have fun while challenging yourself and gain access to your own inner strength. The magic of the arm balance is demystified and made approachable so that every practitioner who is not afraid to put in the work can feel the beauty of flight. When done correctly arm balances can build self-esteem, increase energy flow and heal old injuries. Every student will leave with proven techniques to safely build the structural support necessary for stability in all strength based postures.
