Course Outline
Yoga-Tastic 4 Kids Inc. — Children’s Suspension Yoga Teacher Training
Program Overview
This 200-hour program is a specialized children’s suspension-yoga and mindfulness training. Suspension yoga with children requires a deeper understanding of behaviour, emotional development, safety procedures, and mindful instruction. Over the past five years teaching suspension yoga to children, I have seen firsthand that behavioural awareness, emotional support, and prevention strategies are essential for safety and confidence.
This program was developed to meet the unique needs of children in a suspension-yoga environment. Traditional yoga teacher training provides a strong foundation in yoga philosophy, movement, and teaching skills; however, working with children in the air requires additional layers of understanding that extend beyond a typical YTT curriculum. This includes behaviour awareness, sensory understanding, emotional regulation, and real-time safety decision-making.
This training does not replace traditional yoga education—it respectfully complements it by addressing the specialized needs of children in this modality. It blends yoga principles with child development, movement safety, mindfulness, and behavioural insight to prepare instructors to support children confidently and compassionately in a suspension-yoga setting.
1. Anatomy & Physiology – 25 Hours
Study of children’s anatomical development, alignment, joint safety, muscular engagement, sensory systems (vestibular and proprioceptive), and injury prevention specific to suspension-based movement. Understanding how growing bodies respond to the hammock, inversions, and movement.
2. Study of Asanas – 25 Hours
Study of child-appropriate yoga postures adapted for the hammock. Safe transitions, supported inversions, sequencing for different ages, modifications for diverse abilities, and playful movement education tailored specifically for children.
3. Study of Pranayama – 10 Hours
Breath work designed for children: grounding breaths, calming breaths, mindful breathing techniques, breath games, and integrating breath into suspension-yoga practices to support emotional regulation and focus.
4. Study of Energy Systems – 10 Hours
Understanding children’s energetic patterns including overstimulation, under-stimulation, emotional energy, and how suspension-based movement helps children regulate, ground, and balance their energy levels.
5. Study of Energy Bodies – 10 Hours
Child-friendly introduction to awareness, presence, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, sensing body cues, and connecting internal experiences to movement and stillness. Concepts are adapted for children in age-appropriate language.
6. Yoga Philosophy – 15 Hours
Children’s yoga values: kindness, compassion, self-awareness, patience, non-judgment, connection, confidence, empathy, and gratitude. Incorporates mindfulness principles inspired by leaders such as Jack Kornfield, Eckhart Tolle, Dr. Gabor Maté, and Dr. Becky Kennedy in developmentally appropriate ways.

9. Shadowing Requirement – 15 Hours
Shadowing is an essential part of this training. Trainees observe Miss Sandra during live children’s suspension-yoga classes to see how she:
• Recognizes early signs of dysregulation
• Redirects behaviour calmly and effectively
• Prevents incidents through proactive strategies
• Maintains a safe, supportive class environment
• Supports children with diverse emotional and behavioural
• Communicates clearly and compassionately
• Uses grounding tools and breathwork to help children regulate
• Adjusts class plans based on group needs
• Manages transitions confidently and safely
These shadowing hours give trainees real-world behavioural and safety insight that cannot be learned from theory alone. This experiential learning prepares instructors to confidently support children in a suspension-yoga setting.
10. Other – Mindfulness, Emotional Support & Applied Integration – 10 Hours
Integrating mindfulness, emotional support, grounding techniques, self-awareness tools, and practical scenarios into suspension-yoga teaching. Includes applied case studies, scenario-based learning, and reflective practices to build confidence and intuition as an instructor.
